The ruby slippers are the magic pair of shoes worn by Dorothy Gale as played by Judy Garland in the 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical film The Wizard of Oz. Because of their iconic stature, the ruby slippers are among the most valuable items of film memorabilia.

Dorothy's Ruby Slippers worn by Judy Garland are on display at the Academy Museum.  Costume design, Adrian. Produced by the Innes Shoe Company, Pasadena and Hollywood - Leather, silk faille, silk georgette, sequins, rhinestones, bugle beads, costume jewels. The slippers were designed by Gilbert Adrian, MGM's chief costume designer.

In L. Frank Baum's original 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, on which the film is based, Dorothy wears Silver Shoes. However, the color of the shoes was changed to red to take advantage of the new Technicolor film process used in big-budget Hollywood films of the era. Film screenwriter Noel Langley is credited with the idea.
