Upon its first release in 1975, the film was hugely popular and its reputation has only grown over time. 8 things you need to know about the LEGO® Ideas Jaws set:
1. It’s based on a record-breaking film
When it was released in 1975, Jaws became the highest-grossing movie of all time. It was based on a best-selling novel that translated perfectly to the big screen and has now been thrilling audiences for almost 50 years. It helped launch the career of director Steven Spielberg, and composer John Williams created a soundtrack that has now become legendary.
2. It’s the latest set from LEGO Ideas
This set was a passion project from Northern Irish fan-builder Jonny Campbell, who calls Jaws his favorite movie of all time. Jonny has been a lover of LEGO sets since he was a child, and has always enjoyed creating his own sets – usually re-creating scenes from something he had just watched on television. While designing the Jaws set, Jonny re-watched the film several times, pausing the movie at various stages in order to get as many angles of the boat and as much detail as possible.

This set features a brick-built model of the Orca, the boat used to hunt the Great White, but which ends up getting hunted itself. The Orca boat model in this 1,497-piece Jaws LEGO set measures over 14 in. (35 cm) high, 23 in. (59 cm) long and 7.5 in. (20 cm) wide. It has a removable roof that reveals a detailed cabin, which will be familiar to fans of the movie. On deck, there’s an adjustable boom and rigging, plus lots of shark-hunting accessories like harpoons and the famous yellow barrels.

In the LEGO Ideas Jaws set, you can attach a printed tile with Chief Brody’s famous quip, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat”. And you’d probably better get used to hearing that if you’re going to display this in your home.
6. The set has a brick-built shark
In the original movie, the pneumatically powered shark weighed a whopping 1.2 tons and measured 25 feet (7.6 m) in length. In one of cinema’s most famous workarounds, it didn’t fully appear until over an hour into the two-hour film. While this had the effect of heightening suspense, it was actually because the crew couldn’t get the complicated mechanical shark to work!

You can display the shark from Jaws emerging from the water and attacking the boat on the sea base or you can make the shark the hero and display it fully built on its own stand with a movie nameplate.
