Sgraffito (Italian: [zɡrafˈfiːto]; plural: sgraffiti) is a technique either of wall decor, produced by applying layers of plaster tinted in contrasting colours to a moistened surface, or in pottery, by applying to an unfired ceramic body two successive layers of contrasting slip or glaze, and then in either case scratching so as to reveal parts of the underlying layer. The Italian past participle "sgraffiato" is also used, especially of pottery.

Wayne Perry is an accomplished Los Angeles-based ceramic artist, art fabricator, public art restorer, and educator. He maintains a studio practice, where he produces ceramic art and pottery for exhibitions and commissions. For the past 22 years, Perry has worked on over fifty public art projects throughout Los Angeles and California. As a ceramic tile mural fabricator, he has helped make over thirty large-scale art projects with renowned LA artists. He has been commissioned by The Getty, The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, The Pasadena Playhouse, and the California Community Foundation. Perry's technical and artistic mastery in ceramics come from studying and working with artist Peter Shire, where he produced pottery, ceramic art, and public art for 15 years. Currently, Perry works as a consultant for the Los Angeles Metro Public Art Program. He maintains and restores the extensive public art collection and supports the fabrication and installation of new art projects throughout Los Angeles County.
